The Aengwirden / Tromp combi has won the Elfstedenroei marathon 2018. They needed a time of 17 hours and 14 minutes for this. It was a blood-curdling battle with number two, the fastest student team of Gyas, which finished at 1.18 minutes behind. From the start, it was a penny change between both rivals where Gyas initially took over the head of the first started Aengwirden-combi with former international Göbel, Cirkel and Vellinga on board. After a steering error on the Dokkumer Ee, however, the students had to make up for eight minutes. In the end they only fell for a minute.
A special achievement was put down by the German team Cool Runnings. The six-man formation ended, as last year, as the third overall. And broke their own record with a time of 17 hours and 42 minutes. An incredibly handsome achievement!
Fastest, after an exciting battle with the Wetterwille-mix (dropped after steering error) and until the end RIC, the combi-team of ARC became the winner in the mixed-field. This team also counted a number of former internationals, including Myke Mol and Liesbeth Jorritsma. They recorded a time of 18.09 hours and became fourth overall.
